Why refugees? Why girls?
We are in the midst of the biggest refugee crisis the world has ever seen. Over 123.2 million people worldwide have been forced to flee their homes.
In conflict, girls are especially vulnerable to violence, isolation, and being kept out of school. Girls who receive resettlement in the United States face huge challenges: poverty, language barrier, limited or disrupted education, isolation, and trauma.

As of late 2024/early 2025, global forced displacement has escalated significantly, with 123.2 million people worldwide forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution, and violence. This figure is nearly double the number from a decade ago, with 1 in every 67 people on Earth now displaced.
Total Displaced: 123.2 million people by the end of 2024, a record high.
Refugees: Roughly 42.7 million people have crossed international borders seeking safety.
Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs): Over 73.5 million people are displaced within their own countries.
Key Drivers: Escalating conflicts in Sudan (over 14 million displaced), Ukraine, Gaza, Myanmar, and Syria are the primary drivers.
Friends. Mentors. Safe spaces.
