ATX: Demand Cornyn & Cruz Support The Keep Families Together Act

  • 221 W 6th St, Austin, TX 78701-3401, United States (map)

It is imperative that we maintain a strong, vocal, and united stand against separating families at the border. As of 6/18/18, 49 senators support the Keep Families Together Act. There is no need for Sen. Cornyn or Sen. Cruz to draft their own bills, full of mystery and general promises at the start, and full of unacceptable riders and provisions when all is revealed. They should not delay in signing on to the Keep Families Together Act.

A small group of TX21 constituents (two of us) are committed to kicking off this action at Sen. Cornyn's office with an office visit at 9am, and then walking to Sen. Cruz's office for the same -- even if no one else shows up. But if more of you want to participate, know that Sen. Cornyn's office only allows 5 constituents at a time to go up to his office. The walk to Sen. Cruz's office is about 10-15 minutes. I expect the first group to be done with both visits by 10am.

It would be amazing if more people came all day long to make the rounds, sending a resounding message that Texans find the inhumane treatment of asylum seekers at the U.S. border intolerable and unacceptable.

Even if you can't come at 9am, but you can come later in the day, you should. And budget an hour to visit both offices.

If you aren't much for office visits, come by and bring a sign to stand outside and educate passers-by. Loud and visible are good.
