Migration Is Sweet: The Future Is Sweeter When You Vote

  • Texas State Capitol 1100 Congress Avenue Austin, TX, 78701 United States (map)

The future is sweeter when YOU vote!

The Jolt Make Art Committee is protesting the end of the #DACA program with a pan dulce butterfly art installation at the Texas State Capitol. Join us to call for an end to deportations โœŠ๐ŸพโœŠ๐ŸพโœŠ๐ŸพYouโ€™ll also have a chance to hear from #Dreamers and register to vote, so that this November we can elect leaders who will protect Latino & immigrant communities.

The Monarch butterfly is symbolic of migration as itโ€™s known to originate in Mexico and migrate across borders throughout its life-cycle. We're making a pan dulce butterfly to symbolize a piece of Latino culture. Unlike migrants seeking better lives, such as DACA recipients and their parents, our food & culture are more readily claimed as American โ€” only some things can easily cross borders! This installation will show our community we are still fighting for representation and recognition.

* Speakers include local DACA recipients and the Artists of the piece.
** Facebook Live streaming will be available.
*** In case of rain we will relocate to the Mexican American Cultural Center, 600 River St, Austin, TX 78701  https://goo.gl/maps/LoYEY5WDL5x
