Immigrants, The Musical! Part Two

  • The Institution Theater 3708 Woodbury Dr, Austin, Texas 78704 (map)

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME.

America is a nation built by immigrants and their experiences of bravery, resilience, and strength are stories often untold. Many have left their homes, communities, and most importantly, their loved ones. Many have taken difficult journeys to start a new life in an unfamiliar country - frequently with very little to their name – with the extremely hard task of building new lives and contribute to society in their new world.

Immigrants, The Musical! (Part Two) is a chance for these invaluable stories to be told through an improvised hip-hop musical inspired by such masterpieces as Hamilton. Each week, a new monologist will narrate their immigrant experience, each from a different background: Mexico, Russia, Vietnam, El Salvador, and more. The cast will then expand these stories into full improvised musicals, giving life to the emotion, the journey, and the laughs and hardships along the way. These stories will showcase the resilience and the spirit of the immigrant and America.

Directed by Lahari Dunn and Asaf Ronen. Musical Direction by Tosin Awofeso. Cast: Adrian Prado, Chelsea Beth, Dave Ronn, Frank Sánchez, Kim Tran, Linzy Beltran, Marcia Sanchez, Shannon Stott, Tatiana Jitkoff, and Tyler Groce.

The Institution Theater is a sponsored project of Austin Creative Alliance. This project is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
