National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) and the Southeast Asia Resource Action Center (SEARAC) earlier this week unveiled our groundbreaking report on the effects of detention and deportation on Southeast Asian American women and families, and we'd love to invite you to a panel discussion about it.
The report, “Dreams Detained, In Her Words,” tells the stories of Southeast Asian American women whose family members have experienced detention and deportation. The women we interviewed graciously shared in their own words how family separation affected them. Many reported experiencing severe financial hardship and emotional distress as a result of their loved one being detained and/or deported. Several women had to pay off thousands in legal fees, and a few were even forced to postpone their plans to have children or grow their family. To this day, many continue to struggle to come to terms with the lingering trauma.
Please note the location change! NAPAWF Chicago is partnering with Cambodian Association of Illinois (CAI) to host this event in their space. After the panel, we will be taking action to get out the vote with CAI youth!
